Intro to Chest Stand Tutorial

Intro to Chest Stand or Ganda Bherundasana Tutorial is an advanced intermediate level session to prepare the body for chest stand. Please note that although there is a demo of chest stand by Bronwen, participants will be asked to keep their feet on the floor throughout the drills. Should you choose to participate, please note the added risk: injuries to the cervical spine can be severe and fatal. Advanced skills require range throughout the entire body, not just the spine, and, therefore, a long list of injuries, illnesses and or conditions are contraindications for safe practice of the chest stand. You should be free of any injury, illness or condition that could get in the way of safe training for chest stands. A warm-up that prepares the body for back bending is recommend.

While prerequisites do not ensure safety, they can offer some degree of preparation for the skill. You should be able to comfortably hold and breathe while in the following positions:

  • Flex Full Bridge/Upper Facing Bow or Wheel

  • Puppy pose with the chest to the floor

  • Shoulderstands

  • Forearm Stand/Pincha Mayurasana (against the wall is fine, but no collapsing through the spine)

Please note that online training does have added risk: There is no one there to spot you, ensure the safety of the area you are training in, the safety of equipment you are using, your readiness to train, or monitor your alignment and approach to training. Please understand that you participate at your own risk.

  • Release, Waiver and Indemnity: You hereby release, hold harmless, indemnify and waive any claims against BLK Yoga, BlK Works Inc, and Bronwen Kettleson with respect to any and all liability and damages incurred during, or in any way associated with, your participation in the Activities with BLK Yoga, BlK Works Inc, and Bronwen Kettleson, however caused, including as a result of the Released Parties’ negligence, including but not limited to damage to or loss of personal property, personal injuries, death, illness, or any cause of action related to premises liability.
