Advanced Beginner to Intermediate Level

Props/Training Tools:

  • Barre or other stable support

  • Training area free of anything that could get in the way of safe training.

  • Blocks

  • Mat or carpet for conditioning

Arabesque is a movement widely used within many dance forms and involves extending the leg behind in a turned out (externally rotated) hip, tibia, knee and foot position. Class will work to build active mobility through floor exercises, such as square hip lunges and open hip kneeling positions. In order to demonstrate another use for this leg position, we will work on the conditioning for the Back Leg Extension exercise found in the Graham technique. The session will then move on to Arabesque’s practice at the bar, including Grand Battement and Developpe, as well as the progression to Penche.

Please note that online training does have added risk: There is no one there to spot you, ensure the safety of the area you are training in, the safety of equipment you are using, your readiness to train, or monitor your alignment and approach to training.
