L 4: Handstand Conditioning

Intermediate Handstands
Intermediate Level
Prerequisites:

  • Ability to take feet off of the floor in the centre with control and without a spot. (Donkey kicks, switch handstand, and slow-mo cartwheels.)

    • Ability to fall out of the above skills safely.

  • Option to use headstand as a modification for pike press. If you choose to use, please ensure that you know the technique for the headstand foundation. If unfamiliar, please review one of the headstand classes.

  • Ability to move on and off the wall in a handstand with control and without a spot.

Props:

  • Mat or a carpet

  • Wall space—no glass windows, or doors—clear of anything that could get in the way of safe training.

  • A stable chair placed against a wall for stability. Modification if none available.

  • A couch or other heave object that could support hand placement for core drills. Modification if none available.

  • Blocks

The session will work to build greater technical understanding, range, comfort, line and ability within handstands. Conditioning will include strength and mobility work on and off the wall. Shapes will include straddle, tuck, pike, and single leg. This session was recorded as a livestream class held in Dec of 2024.

Please note that online training does have added risk: There is no one there to spot you, ensure the safety of the area you are training in, the safety of equipment you are using, your readiness to train, or monitor your alignment and approach to training. Please understand that you participate at your own risk.

  • Release, Waiver and Indemnity: You hereby release, hold harmless, indemnify and waive any claims against BLK Yoga, Bronwen Kettleson, and BLK Works Inc with respect to any and all liability and damages incurred during, or in any way associated with, your participation in the Activities with BLK Yoga, Bronwen Kettleson, and BLK Works Inc, however caused, including as a result of the Released Parties’ negligence, including but not limited to damage to or loss of personal property, personal injuries, death, illness, or any cause of action related to premises liability.
